First of all, Portuguese of Portugal or European Portuguese, is a "Romance" and "Vulgar Latin" language (like French, Spanish, Italian and Romanian). It's the 6th most spoken language in the world and spoken mainly in Portugal, with others countries that speak the language such Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, East Timor, Macau, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Goa.
The pronunciation of European Portuguese is much more closed with open and closed vowels compared to Brazilian Portuguese which has a predominantly open pronunciation.
In Portuguese of Portugal, the pronoun "you" has two forms such formal (você) between people you don't know or elder peeple and informal (tu) with friends, familly and people you know personally. The pronoun "tu" is the most used in Portuguese media and dub as it use informal speech.
The nouns, adjectives, pronouns, and articles are inflected with two genders (masculine and feminine) and two numbers (singular and plural) : O homem vê duas flores
The gerund principle is one of the best example of difference between European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese : Ele está cozinhando (br) / Ele está a cozinhar (pt).
Many words and expressions differs a lot from Brazilian Portuguese like for example : celular (br) / telemóvel (pt), ônibus (br) / autocarro (pt), sorvete (br) / gelado (pt), banheiro (br) / casa de banho (pt), trem (br) / comboio (pt), café da manhã (br) / pequeno-almoço (pt) and a lot more.
